Today we had a beautiful Mass to start our day off in which we each put a can up on the alter as an offering!
Today we practiced retelling the story of Thanksgiving, wrote about and drew our own Thanksgiving, imagined what our Thanksgiving would be like using our 5 senses, and worked together to do math and literacy activities!
Our total can collection for the St. Luke Food Pantry is 73!!! It is so encouraging to acknowledge all of the generosity and giving experienced throughout the process!! Thank you to each of you who contributed!!
A big round of applause goes out to Pre-K 3 for bringing in 104 cans!! Amazing job!
I pray that each of you and your families have a most blessed Thanksgiving holiday!! There is truly so much to be thankful for!! May your Thanksgiving break be filled with joy, love, and thanks!!

Fabulous Friday!
Brrrrrr! What a breathtaking (or take your breath away) chilly Friday!!
In our SecondStep guidance today we learned about accidents and when things happen, but they're not on purpose. We practiced how to respond to accidents and how to handle them with our friends!
Today we listened to The First Thanksgiving to retell the story in order to learn the relationship between the Indians and Pilgrims!
In math today, we worked with placing objects (our shoes!) on a larger sized graph to read the graph to identify the most and fewest!
We practiced our Christmas song again today in music and our Spanish teachers came for a lesson!!
We had a fantastic day learning together!!
Your child has homework this weekend to build a Tepee!!! The model is on a piece of paper, but you and your family can decorate however you wish to!! Once we all have created one, we will have a tepee village in our classroom! We are truly enjoying learning about the Native Americans and life long ago!
We are still collecting cans!!! We are up to 63!! We will collect cans through next Tuesday!
I hope you each have a warm and safe weekend!! May God's blessings be overflowing for you and your families!!!
FYI: We DO have school next Monday and Tuesday!!! We do NOT have school Wednesday-Friday in order to celebrate Thanksgiving!!

Windy Tuesday!!!
Thankfully the sun was shining bright today even though it was so windy!!
Today we continued our work with the two sounds that 'i' makes. We also began work with a new concept: twin consonants. We worked with the words hill, inn, and mitt to acknowledge the short 'i' followed by consonants with which we mark with a breve. We then crossed out the second consonant in each word to remind ourseleves that we only pronounce the consonant once.
We are working very hard in our math and literacy centers!!
Our pumpkin sprouts are growing even bigger, which goes along with what we're learning about in religion: how each of us grows and growing is good to be more like Jesus, growing and living as Christians!!

What a Gorgeous Friday!
We did such a wonderful job showing reverence and participating in Mass today!! As a class, we received 1 big warm fuzzy!!
We were quick to notice new words on our word worm to include: mop, lamp, ham, and hat!
In our SecondStep guidance lesson today, we worked with identifying the feeling of anger and learned what it means to show empathy!
Today we retold the story of If You Give a Moose a Muffin in order to illustrate and write about something that we would give a moose!! We worked hard to put all of our work together to make a class story!
We are working hard solving problems in math using linking cubes to act out, draw, and explain the process of how we solved the problem!
Our Spanish teachers also came today!!
Our pumpkin seeds/sprouts have been replanted and are now basking in the sunlight in our classroom to see if a pumpkin vine will grow!! We are waiting patiently as we make observations each today in hopes of a blossom from our sprouts!!
We had more students receive their 1st and even 2nd free ice cream treats from Braums as they have been logging the books they have read and brought in their Braums Book Buddy pamphlet to receive their stickers!!!
Our food basket is getting fuller as we are bringing in food items for the Food Pantry!! What a beautiful act of thanking God for our blessings while having a giving hand towards others!
I hope you each have a blessed weekend enjoying the beauty that God has provided us this fall in the company of loved ones!!

What a gorgeous fall day!!! God is so great to us!
Today we had computers and library!
We continued our work with solving problems in math and working together in our math centers! We did a rhyme bounce and alphabet roll practice with a partner today-such great effort and team work was present! In science, we were able to identify many shadows as the sun was shining bright and we made sidewalk chalk shadows! In social studies, we recalled the state we live in as Texas, and identified it within the whole United States!
As we have been sharing and recognizing all of the ways that God made us each uniquely wonderful, we took part in an "I'm wonderful!" march!

Welcome Sunny Wednesday!!
Our meteorologist was very excited to be able to change the weather today as the sun came out to shine!!!
Today we worked with identifying vowels and the number of syllables in a word. We listened to Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash to write and illustrate what we would hang up first, next, and last!
In math, we are learning how to listen to a given problem, act it out using manipulatives such as linking cubes, and then drawing out the problem to show how we solved it!
Unlike the cold weather that has come our way, we are learning about heat from the sun to acknowledge the sun as a source of heat and light!!
Today in social studies we learned about the state we live in: Texas! We are working on identifying the differences and relationship between our neighborhoods and state!
Tonight your child has number handwriting homework for numbers 1-20!
Please make sure you are logging your reading with your child each night and send to school their Braums Book Buddy card to receive stickers for the books they have read!!
Please be aware of the changing weather!! Please make sure your child is coming to school with a sweater/sweatshirt and is prepared to be bundled well to stay warm and healthy!
During the month of November, we are encouraging each child and family to support the ARK: St. Luke Catholic Food Pantry by bringing in canned/non-perishable food items!! This can include any canned food item such as vegetables, fruit, tuna, peanut butter, etc. or boxed items to include pasta and microwavable meals! Just as God has provided us, we are called to help others in need and to be the giving hands of Jesus! This is such an unique opportunity for you and your family to count your blessings, help others, and join in thanksgiving during this time of year!! Just imagine the impact we could make in others' lives if each day we each brought in at least 1 item for the collection!!! There is no limit to giving!!
Movie night is this coming Friday, November 8th!! Food concessions will open at 6:00p.m. and the movie will start at 7:00p.m. Admission is 1 canned food item (not expired)!

Another Tuesday in Kindergarten!
Today in math we worked more with identifying shapes according to 3 attributes (color, shape, and size) to choose the shape that did not belong in a group. We are also working very hard on identifying numbers and rote counting!
We learned the formation of the upper case ‘M’ and how to identify if a sound is heard at the beginning, end, or in the middle of a word using our letter tiles.
In social studies, we worked more with identifying the places we live and how they can be different for people around the world. We talked about transportation, moving from one place to the next in our neighborhoods.

Please be aware of the changing weather!! Tomorrow the weather is forecasted to be much colder so please make sure your child is coming to school with a sweater/sweatshirt and is prepared to be bundled well to stay warm and healthy!

More Than Amazing Monday!!
Wow! What a marvelous Monday in kindergarten!! We began our morning by saying the prayer and pledge as a class for the school and did an outstanding job! We then worked very hard in computers and were proud to say that we stepped up to assist friends when help was needed!
Today we began work with our new letter 'Mm!' We are so excited about all of the new words we can make using the letter 'm!'
We worked extra hard in math today with money work and addition!
In religion this week, we are learning about how God made us each wonderful in our own ways and how we have special traits and talents that God gave us to use and share!
Even though it was cloudy today and the sun was not out, we are learning about the sun and its ability to make shadows as it is a source of heat and light!
Today our Spanish teachers came for some extra time to do a lesson with us!
There is such a wonderful sense of classroom community in our kindergarten class and today we did such a wonderful job of working and learning together as we helped each other in numerous ways that we reached the 2nd line on our 'Warm Fuzzy Jar!' The class was able to choose a song to enjoy listening to, and their class choice was 'Mr. Sun!' We also listened to 'Down by the Bay' and 'Brush Your Teeth' as time allowed :)
IMPORTANT:
Parents: There is a survey coming home with your child that must be completed TONIGHT and returned TOMORROW!!! Please make sure you take the time to complete the survey and send back to school tomorrow with your child!! Thank you!

Living Like Saints
It was so wonderful seeing so many of you at the Halloween Festival last night!!
Today was such a beautiful day to celebrate All Saints Day and to keep in mind All Souls Day that is tomorrow! Living like saints and following the Golden Rule is present every day in our classroom!
We had music today which is a reminder to be practicing the Christmas song and lyrics at home with your child!
In math, we worked with a number line and counting bears to identify numbers before, after, and inbetween a given number.
We added 'ant, plant, tan, pan, nap, on, an, not' to our Word Worm!!
Our SecondStep Guidance lesson involved acknowledging the feelings of afraid/scared and interested.
We read The Perfect Nest to identify the beginning, middle, and end story parts, along with predicting what we thought would happen next if the story went on!
Our outreach Spanish teachers also came to do a lesson with us today!
It was a busy, but cheerful and wonderfully sunny day! I hope you each have a terrific weekend enjoying the many blessings that are all around!
REMINDERS:
For the next two weeks, we will be doing morning prayer and pledge for the school! We will be leaving our classroom at 7:55a.m. each morning to say the prayer and pledge as a class!
